Attention! Story of the Month – July 2019 – this is ‘General’

‘General’

The very handsome General the Great Dane presented to the clinic recently with a history of vomiting and lethargy.

On examination his abdomen was very distended and uncomfortable.

X-rays confirmed a condition called Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus (GDV). This is a rapidly progressive life-threatening condition in which the stomach bloats and rotates in the abdomen.

General was stabilised and his stomach decompressed. Emergency surgery was performed by Dr Jaimie to return the stomach and spleen to its normal position.

General needed a lot of support after surgery and was initially monitored at WAVES emergency centre.

He has now fully recovered and back to his playful loving self….
